Folk Harp Lessons With
Amy E. Vining, Christian Harpist

Mission Statement: Proclaiming God's Love and Praising Our Savior Christ through the Gift and Blessings of the Harp

What does this mission statement really mean?
This statement is a reflection of the reason I began to offer folk harp lessons.  In the spring of 2006, I asked the Vestry of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Henderson, NV, on which I served as Fellowship Chair, if they would allow me to teach a folk harp class as a fundraiser for the church and as an opportunity for unique fellowshipping and evangelism.  They graciously allowed me to do so and I got busy building student harps.  The proceeds collected for the Summer Harp Camp benefited St. Timothy's.  The Fall 2006 Harp Classes were also conducted as a fundraiser for St. Tim's.

Why is this important?
My long-term goal is to continue offering affordable folk harp lessons to all, regardless of religious, social, or cultural background.  I encourage my students to perform as volunteer harpists and harpers, providing entertainment and music therapy to local healthcare facilities.  I plan opportunities for this in the places I where I volunteer. To me, it's all about Jesus and reaching people in His name to share the gift of His saving love.  Music touches people right to their very souls, and harp music in particular speaks to us in a way nothing else can.  It is my prayer that God will let me use this gift to reflect His light and show His love to the people in my little corner of the world.

About the pictures above and below.....
This photo shows the Saints at work: shining the light of God for everyone to see.  Above, from left to right, are pictured: my student Marnie Magner (with her harp built in my Harp Building Class); myself and my daughter Thora (with my Venus pedal harp); and my student Richard Brown (with the Tara-style harp he built in my Harp Building Class).  Below is my dear friend and student Pam Robinson, who was my inspiration and encouragement to become a VA volunteer (shown with her harp, "Herkie", which she built in the harp building class with the other students). We are all shown giving a volunteer Christmas performance at the Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital Las Vegas, NV, in December 2007.  These wondeful friends of mine show us that we CAN acheive our dreams and serve the Lord with  great joy and gladness.

FOLK HARP LESSONS

Over the years, I have had people ask me, "Do you teach?"  I have also talked to many people who could not afford to buy or rent a harp and still pay for lessons.  Some who were intrigued by the harp wanted an opportunity to rent a harp and take lessons before deciding whether or not to buy a harp of their own.  In an effort to bring the joy and beauty of the harp to these people, I decided that I would begin to offer affordable lessons and build a fleet of inexpensive student harps.  After all, "Folk Harp" should be available for all kinds of folks to enjoy!

Learning the harp is a wonderful process of self-discovery and a real character-building experience.  For me, it has been a life lesson in personal growth and development.  And,yes, if I can play the harp, so can you.  Yes, even YOU can play the harp!!!  No previous musical training
is needed.  No exceptional talent is, either.  The most important factors in learning are determination and dedication.

Below you will find the current lesson rate schedule.  I make every effort to keep lessons affordable so that everyone may have the opportunity to learn. Students of all ages and experience levels are welcome.   The curriculum I have chosen fits any size and type of harp and is designed to give students all the basic skills they need to become a folk harpist.  What I teach is also compatible with classical methods so that those who graduate from lessons with me can pursue serious classical study of the harp if that is their desire.

Don't wait another day!  If you've always dreamed of playing the harp, contact me and discover the "Hidden Harpist"  in yourself!!!
