All About christianharpistsouthwest, Amy Vining
This is my autobiography and my testimony.  Let these words stand to guide and encourage all who read them to seek the Living Word, Jesus Christ, and to learn to journey in their High Places.

I have been wonderfully blessed by God with the opportunity to play the harp.  When my life was somewhat empty and I was feeling like I had no direction, a wonderful thing happened to me.  God spoke to me (though I would never have admitted it at the time, having spent quite a large part of my life running away from Him), and He told me to learn to play the harp.  And, He told me to learn to build harps, too.

Now, this sounds like a pretty tall order.  To take me, with no musical or woodworking talent whatsoever (absolutely true), and turn me into a musician AND a craftsman?  HAH!  If I had thought then that God had told me to do these things, I would have laughed at Him and at myself.  And, in His patient and loving way, He would have done for me what He did do in spite of my faithlessness: He transformed me from a selfish, crude, Unrepentant Sinner into a Soldier of the Lord.

I began playing the harp in the summer of 1999.  I took a few months of private lessons and then I taught myself.  I took to harps like a husky to the snow and I haven't looked back once or regretted one single moment of this amazing journey.  Now, I can play both lever and pedal harp, arrange my own music, and, as a self-taught vocalist, accompany my singing with my playing.

Not only have I learned to play them, but I have learned to build  folk harps as well.  I draw my own plans and build my own designs. I've built 20+ harps, and have no plans to stop building anytime soon.

It has been my tremendous blessing and privilege to serve as a harpist volunteer, bringing the music of the harp to people in need of comfort.  Over the years I have been a volunteer at three nursing homes, one hospice, and one hospital in Las Vegas.  I was an official VA volunteer, and a Nathan Adelson volunteer.  Although for many years I was happy to be a "Career Volunteer", life's inevitable changes have made it necessary to go to work, but until moving to Flagstaff,  I still made the time to volunteer at Nathan Adelson every week and for the Nevada State Veterans Home, Boulder City, and Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital, when I was able.  Now these moments of grace and blessing mean more to me than ever.

I have also served as a volunteer musician in a number of local churches, even leading my own traditional Hymn Choir at one!  Not bad for an amateur!!!  :)

WOW!  It's been a wild, amazing ride, taking me to places I never, ever thought I would go: walking on High Ground in service to the Lord.
"The Lord God is my strength, and He will give me hind's feet and make to walk upon mine high places."  Habakkuk 3:19

Music is a gift that becomes complete only in sharing it with others.  Its power lies in its ability to communicate directly with our emotions and to touch our souls.  Combine music with the love and power of the Holy Spirit, and you have one potent recipe for spiritual growth and success!  I thank God for this every day of my life.  He deserves all the credit for His amazing grace and healing.  If you find anything beautiful, anything graceful, anything glorious in my music, remember to whom I owe EVERYTHING, and to whom belongs the praise.
"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto eternal glory by Christ Jesus.....stablish, strengthen, and settle you.  To HIM be the glory and dominion forever and ever.  Amen"  1 Peter 5:10-11

What more can I say?  Looking back over the nine years I've journeyed with the harp and the Lord, I can't help but sing!  How could I ever accomplish these things alone?  It just goes to show that anybody can do anything with a little help from a Friend......Jesus!
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."  Philippians 4:13

God bless you on your journey.  May Jesus truly lead you to walk beside Him all the days of your life, and bring you to dwell in His house forever!

And now, He has truly set me on my High Places!  As of July 2008, my new home is in Flagstaff, AZ.
